WHO WE ARE

Family owned and founded in 1959 in Paola, Kansas, we evolved from a small iron shop into a full‑service, AISC‑certified structural and miscellaneous steel fabricator and erector, trusted by the Midwest's top contractors for over six decades. Today, we deliver big build steel solutions from concept to completion, including detailing, design assist, material procurement, precision fabrication, and field erection across the Midwest.

We blend advanced technology with boots-on-the-ground expertise to tackle projects of any scale, from intricate framing and complex custom builds to large-scale structural installations.     DETAILING

    Steel Detailing is the first step of many when getting ready to construct your building. Our detailing department uses SDS2 to design connections and create 3D models.

    DESIGN BUILD & DESIGN ASSIST

    Doherty Steel can provide one contract to provide design, engineering and construction services to the owner. This provides the owner with faster delivery, cost savings, better quality and singular accountability and responsibility.

    MATERIAL PROCUREMENT

    Doherty Steel purchases steel shapes from the mills and/or the warehouses based on the Advanced Bill of Materials. This ensures availability of the material, quality and volume discounts.

    FABRICATION

    With 2 phases of expansions completed in 2021 and 2022, Doherty Steel’s 165,000 square foot facility has now increased processing capacity to output a potential of 20,000+ tons of fabricated steel per year.

    STEEL ERECTION

    Assembly of fabricated steel members into a frame on-site is major part of what Doherty Steel does. Erecting a structure safely, quickly, and economically relates directly with decisions made early.

    PRECAST ERECTION

    Precast installation is a division within the company specializing in the erection of architectural and structural precast concrete. The Doherty Precast team is dedicated to getting your precast erected in the most efficient way possible.

    HAND RAIL INSTALLATION

    Once your building is nearly complete, let us help with the finishing touches by installing numerous railing system options with cable, glass and bar infill.
